Welcome! I am Kiki – Seasoned Solo Traveler

Solo traveler, backpacker, aspiring digital nomad, part-time hiker, content creator, and foodie.

In August 2022, I left my 9-5 job and moved to Tokyo, Japan to work as an English teacher. Bye bye Toronto, Canada! Every weekend I would hop on a bus, plane, or train to explore as much of Japan as possible. There were many firsts for me: living on my own, living abroad, and solo traveling.

Every free moment I had was used to plan my next trip and to find new destinations. After two years of living and traveling around Japan I became somewhat of an expert and learned about the more special places with little to no tourists.

Once I gained confidence in my solo travel abilities, I started exploring outside of Japan and visited neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. I was in awe of each country’s unique beauty and atmosphere. There was a whole other world and way of life outside of what I knew back in Canada.

There are so many countries out there to be explored. Life is too short to be locked up inside. If we start now, we might just be able to see it all!

Why Kiki’s Passport?

Traveling to a new country can be intimidating. Different cultures, foods, sights, and smells can be overwhelming outside of what we know, but it can also be exciting! I remember when I booked my first international solo trip to Thailand and thought to myself “Can I actually do this?”.

I had many doubts and thought about cancelling the trip but I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. Reading other travels blogs gave me itineraries, tips & tricks, and the confidence to try solo travel. Let me tell you, it was the best decision I ever made! In 2 years, I was able to travel around 8 Asian countries and almost the entirety of Japan.

I want to help and inspire others to travel so that we can broaden our horizons together. I try to visit less well known places and indulge in the local cuisine to get the experience the country has to offer.
